2010.12.18 - Model Allie Photo Shoot
I had a great time working with Allie (shown in picture). We made some great images, some of which will surely be up on my upcoming website. Stay posted for the website release announcement.
Curious as to how her hair stood on end? She jumped up and as she fell ... flash/snap ... got it. We took a few shots like this ... and with some twirling about. I love the rigidity of the pose juxtaposed with the floating hair. What do you think?
Flash- Nikon Speedlight 1/2 power (i think) with 36" shoot through umbrella approx. 5' centered (almost) at 45 degrees above
Camera- f9, ISO 100, 1/250s
2010.12.12
I was out at the Sutro Baths area today scouting some sites for a shoot next weekend when Michelle and I spotted these surfers down at Ocean Beach. This was taken from the Sutro Heights park with a 300mm at ISO 100, F9, 1/400s.

Still and Motion
If you have a chance to see the exhibit 'Impressionist Paris: City of Light' at the Legion of Honor I strongly recommend you check it out. I snapped this photo just before checking out the exhibit.
2010.09.05 - Trying On A Coat
Trying On A Coat
A Holga (toy camera) shot perhaps? Nope. Sorry to dissapoint .... :-). I took this at the Alameda Antiques Faire (be sure to check out my older posts from the faire) with my D300s. In Photoshop I created a new layer and filled it completely with a deep blue color (000d5e). I then chose 'exclusion', adjusted the opacity and voila! Well almost .... I also added a bit of a vignette. New technology for an old look ... just like the gal in this photo.
2010.09.04 - Apple Trees
Apple Trees
Guess who went apple picking today?
We went to Gabriel Farms (http://gabrielfarm.com/) in Sebastopol (Sonoma County), California. This was an awesome organic farm. The folks there are really, really, really friendly and helpful. We are definitely going back. We are looking forward to making some apple butter, an apple 'cake' that bakes for 14 hours, and some other yummy treats.
You may have noticed this photo and the photo from yesterday have been taken with an external flash. Now that my D300s has 'commander mode' I am practicing with off camera flash. This photo would look really bad (in terms of lighting) if I only used the mid day sun. I was able to take out some of the heavy shadows (and get a nice blue sky by stopping down the lens) by popping my SB-600 at half power from ground level. If I had a diffuser the lighting would have worked a bit better ... I wouldn't have the same harsh uplighting at the lower hanging apples. The photo is a bit busy but I hope you enjoy.

Baby Swan
Evidently this is a baby swan ... or so the waiter told us. It looks like a duck to me but I am no expert. The swan/duck was like a dog and kept begging (patiently) for food off of the table.

These are some of the most famous homes in the U.S. ... the Painted Ladies off of Alamo Square in San Francisco.

2010.08.06 - Puka
Puka
To this day I still refer to a hole as a puka. When talking with others I have to make a concious effort to say hole. Puka is the Hawaiian word for hole.
