2010.09.21 - Woman Putting On Jacket

Woman Putting On Jacket

I am going to be working towards incorporating more street photography into the blog.  I love street photography but haven't done much of it ... mostly because I get self-conscious about photographing random people on the street.  Time to get over it.

2010.09.19 - Sunday Streets

Sunday Streets

I quickly stopped by Sunday Streets in San Francisco today.  On certain Sundays the city closes down a series of streets to traffic and lets people roam the streets by foot, bicycle, or other non-motorized means.  They set up a wall in the street and let people paint it.  Check out the Sunday Streets site:

Still and Motion

If you have a chance to see the exhibit 'Impressionist Paris: City of Light' at the Legion of Honor I strongly recommend you check it out.  I snapped this photo just before checking out the exhibit.

Smile

Wondering where the 'Smile' title comes from?  Click on the image to enlarge and take a look at the creepy bag the man on the left is carrying.

2010.09.12 - Seals & Rock

Seals & Rock

We drove back home today after a great weekend camping trip at Salt Point State Park with Bobby, Karissa, and Brian.  This was taken from a Highway 1 pull out just north of Jenner.

2010.09.11 - Green Pond

Green Pond

We had a great weekend camping trip up at Salt Point (http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=453) and went on a nice hike.  Along the trail we spotted some beautifully shaped stone; I think it was sandstone.  While climbing around the rocks we spotted this pretty little 'pond'. which held some green water.

2010.09.10 - Apple Pattern

Apple Pattern

I really liked how the pattern on the apple was similar to the wood grain of my desk.

2010.09.06 - Tule Elk

Tule Elk

We had a wonderful Labour Day watching Tule elk and going for hike in the Point Reyes area (http://www.nps.gov/pore/).  The Tule elk are native to this area and are rarely found elswhere (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tule_Elk).

2010.09.05 - Trying On A Coat

Trying On A Coat

A Holga (toy camera) shot perhaps?  Nope.  Sorry to dissapoint .... :-).  I took this at the Alameda Antiques Faire (be sure to check out my older posts from the faire) with my D300s.  In Photoshop I created a new layer and filled it completely with a deep blue color (000d5e).  I then chose 'exclusion', adjusted the opacity and voila!  Well almost .... I also added a bit of a vignette.  New technology for an old look ... just like the gal in this photo.

2010.09.04 - Apple Trees

Apple Trees

Guess who went apple picking today?
We went to Gabriel Farms (http://gabrielfarm.com/) in Sebastopol (Sonoma County), California.  This was an awesome organic farm.  The folks there are really, really, really friendly and helpful.  We are definitely going back.  We are looking forward to making some apple butter, an apple 'cake' that bakes for 14 hours, and some other yummy treats.

You may have noticed this photo and the photo from yesterday have been taken with an external flash.  Now that my D300s has 'commander mode' I am practicing with off camera flash.  This photo would look really bad (in terms of lighting) if I only used the mid day sun.  I was able to take out some of the heavy shadows (and get a nice blue sky by stopping down the lens) by popping my SB-600 at half power from ground level.  If I had a diffuser the lighting would have worked a bit better ... I wouldn't have the same harsh uplighting at the lower hanging apples.  The photo is a bit busy but I hope you enjoy.
